As the mighty oak sheds its foliage each year in a vibrant display of chromatic effluence, the latest crop of Alchemy progeny now shed their training wings and have likewise done so with colorful aplomb. After years of intense apprenticeship and education three Alchemy youths now make their journey onto the floor, runnin’ solo, as full-fledged stylist. Alchemy presents its newest stylists: Jamey Lewis, Abby Dahlquist, and Lindsay Amoedo! These three amigos have stood the test of time and trial and have proven themselves to be amazing stylists, in the Alchemy tradition. So next time you stop by maybe throw them a congratulatory wink or a proud high five in salute to their achievement. We are definitely proud of them and can’t wait for you all to see exactly just what they can do! Au Revoir!

There are a few things you don’t often see here at Alchemy: real metal heads, babies, and hawks, preluded by either mo, faux, or bro. Just doesn’t happen much. But recently we were gifted a real treat of the eyes when a young sir, who had the hair of a real metal decided it was time for a change. Helmed by the veteran hands of rock babes Abby and Jamie, the dude walked out of here with one of the most outrageous and awesome “how-the-hell-did-they-do-that?!” hairdos I’ve ever witnessed. Even my eloquent words could not do deserved justice to this masterpiece, so without further ado I present the tale of the 2 1/2 foot punk. Hopefully the not-so-amazing- quality photographs can handle that monumental task.

Viola! Now go try to top it!

As you all may know, we here at Alchemy are heavy advocates of eduaction. We send our stylists literally all over the world to learn the newest techniques and the latest trends in fashion and hairsrtyling. We also train our staff extensively in our product and color lines. Being that we exclusively carry Bumble and Phyto we all know just about everything there is to know about both product lines. It has come to my attention lately, being a forerunner of the salon in the physical, that the Phyto line in particular is posing some problems to you wonderful people. An enigma indeed but one that is easily unriddled.

Phyto is a treatment line, in that each shampoo and/or conditioner (mask, as they call it) does a very specific thing; treats a very specific condition and does a hell of a job at it. Phyto even offers a few “every day” shampoos, each with a hint of specialty particular to certain hair types or conditions. However, they are not like the glamorously-lathering, (quote-unquote) immediate-results shampoos and conditioners you might be used to.

Many shampoos contain detergents that immediately explode into gallons of suds so you think you’re really doing a job and that they are really cleaning or strengthening or thickening or moisturinzing your hair. When in fact the suds are merely the detergents doing their thing, and not the important, active ingredients of the shampoo doing their thing. The helpful and nourishing ingredients that may or may not even be in the shampoo dont even have time to soak into and take effect on the hair strand, as many rinse too soon due to the percieved action of the monstrous lather. This, combined with “fake out” ingredients like wax found in certain shampoos and many conditioners, will technically make your hair feel indredibly soft, but it only because your hair strands are coated in this wax. In reality no more healthy, no more soft than before you shampoo’d.
Phyto on the other hand does not contain said detergents or waxes. In fact Phyto is all natural, plant derived product. Powerful ingredients that work the only way real treatment works: over time. Just like medicine or therapy. The difference may not be as immediate as we’d all like in this day and age, but there will DEFINITELY be a difference and a total 180 in your hairs’ health and condition.

And as far as the low lathering that seems to deter many people there is a simple solution: SHAMPOO TWICE. Not half the bottle, not grinding your fingers into your scalp. Just one capful to dissolve all the dirt and oil that has inevitably accumulated on your scalp. A second to do the real deal work; the treatment. And this second capful, with a generous helping of “soak your hair with water”, will produce the luxurious lather that we all crave. I promise if you follow this simple regimen that ANY Phyto product will impress you and will work exactly what it says it will. Just be patient.
Hopefully this will help some get over their fear of and possibly regain some of those who have given up on the incredible and powerful line that is Phyto.

I honestly can’t tell if I despise these kids out of pure jealousy or if I love them for being so incredibly cool beyond their years or understanding. Clearly they didn’t intend to, but these tots look uncannily like Dolce & Gabbana male models a la the Fall 2004 ad campaign. Pure perfection. They were just hanging out in the salon, being all cool and raising a little hell. And where did they get that incredible hair?! I was so mesmerized by their coolness that I almost offered them a beer. Tell me you’re not jealous of these 2 little dudes(?).

Whaaaaaat?!

As if you didn’t see this coming from a mile away, ex-Alchemite Josh Erickson has officially returned not only from Portland but to Alchemy! The homeland’s call was just too powerful. So after all the “fun” and games of Oregon, and a short stint in the punk retirement community of Gainesville, Josh is now back on the front lines of the Alchemy party. Here to take your calls and make your appointments, surely with his usual beleaguered air and quirky idiosyncrasies, Josh is again part of this elite family of badasses. And word on the streets is that he, Dennis, and Juice (Shawn McCarthy) are all moving into a house together and they’re calling it the “Tall Ass Dudes House”. Much better than the nomenclature of their previous abode… Stop by and and throw a pie in his face!

A face only a mother could love… Welcome back Josh.
