January is coming to a close.

(pictured above: The Kills)

There is some killer music in town this week, including the Kills. This duo from England puts out some of the darkest and coolest sounding blues rock today. Also indie folk favorites the Mountain Goats are bringing their unique songs here this week. One other show this week that will be excellent is on Thursday. Its a party to celebrate the Norse Korea Booking guys for their first year of success. A bunch of local favorites are getting together at Will’s Pub for a free show to celebrate those dudes for a kick ass 2011 of shows. Hope to see you out at some of these happenings. Later!

Goodfellas are back in town.

December 12th, 2011

Tuesday night, Enzian is treating Orlando to a showing of the classic film Goodfellas. One night only and its a 35mm print. An actual film reel will be on the projector, not a dvd or blu-ray, so you’ll be seeing it just as it was when first released in the theater. Its a steal at $5 and a truly rare experience. Theyre also showing Die Hard for free outside of Enzian on wednsday night for free.

After the movie, you should check out Psychedelic San Francisco stoner freaks Moon Duo, who will be slaying Will’s pub on Wednsday night. Heck this whole week is filled with crazy awesome live music acts. Thursday night Vinyl Richie is throwing his annual christmas party at Will’s as well with 3 awesome garage pop acts. Seeya out on the town a bunch this week!

Early Holiday Fun this Week!

December 5th, 2011

(pictured above: My Morning Jacket)

Ceremony and local favorites No Friends are playing Will’s Pub on thursday night. Should be a great mix of hardcore and punk maniacs going crazy. Ceremony has been consistently strong in their recordings and putting on incredible live shows. No Friends is always a blast to see live as well.

Alternative Country greats, My Morning Jacket, are playing Hardrock on sunday. They have such a great classic folky sound mixed with the perfect amount of modern rock. Their first record was stellar. Haven’t heard the new album yet but its gotten some great reviews.

Some really great holiday related events are going on this week too. There’s ice-skating going on at UCF, a holiday laser light show at the Science Center and of course, the Nutcracker ballet at the Plaza Theater. Christmas is coming up quick so get your holiday celebrations starting this week.

Metal Mayhem this week!

November 28th, 2011

(pictured above: Mastodon with some guy)

well Mastodon is probably going to destroy the House of Blues on Thursday night. Might be one of the last times you’ll be able to go to a show there. This band is loud loud loud and their breed of metal just pummels you. Their new record “the Hunter” is incredible. Can’t wait to hear the songs live. Dillinger Escape Plan is opening up for them. Theyre a bunch of super technical metallic maniacs too. I am certainly not going to survive in the pit at this one.

Melancholia is playing at Enzian this week. its the new film by Lars Von Trier, the man behind Dancer in the Dark, Antichrist, and a handful of other twisted, surreal dark films. This one stars Kirsten Dunst and appears to be about a new marriage and the end of the world. it will surely be a visually captivating film. check out the trailer: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/magnolia/melancholia/

Get Melted by the Banana this week.

November 7th, 2011

(pictured above: Melt Banana)

Epic Weirdo Japanese Thrash Band Melt Banana will be performing at Backbooth on Tuesday night. A live performance you won’t want to miss. I dont know how to describe it besides a crazy woman yelping her head off and a masked madman making unimaginable sounds on his guitar.

Then the following night, Backbooth has another killer show, the indie supergroup Mister Heavenly will be playing. Featuring members of Man Man, Modest Mouse, Unicorns, Islands and Black Heart Procession. Imagine all of those bands mixed together and thats what it sounds like. Poppy tropical carnival like sounds with two vocalists. Their album on subpop is solid all the way through. Hopefully their live show is too.

And if youre not in the mood for that show on wednsday night, but you wanna have a few laughs, come to Enzian for their free outdoor showing of Coneheads. As always theirs really fun trivia with jello shots for prizes. Share some laughs outdoors at another great free event put on by the awesome people over at Enzian.

Pretty chill week in Orlando

October 24th, 2011

(pictured above: The Drums)

Enzian is killing it this week with two of the most classic horror films of all time. I mean these are films that originated the horror films of today. Personally im not sure they can be beat. Wednsday night they are showing the original Halloween outside of their outdoor bar. Should be alot of fun to watch outside in the cool weather we’ve been having. They usually have horror inspired fun drinks and a haunted walk to enjoy. Friday night at midnight they are showing the original Friday the 13th. See how masked madman freak Jason started it all. I’m pretty sure this one is in the indoor theater.

The Drums are playing the Social on Thursday Night. Should be alot of fun. I missed them the last time they were here. They come from NYC and have a pretty dancey, new orderish sound to them. Similar to old Factory Records artists. Theyre also doing a free in-store at Park Ave CDs earlier in the evening and i heard its going to be a more mellower set. Should be interesting to see an acoustic version of their sound. Here’s a link for a music video for their most recent single: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqYgNiZdfh4

Time for a rowdy show this Friday!

October 17th, 2011

(pictured above: OFF!)

Hardcore Punk supergroup OFF! is coming to Backbooth this Friday the 21st. Keith Morris (original vocalist of Black Flag) fronts this amazing new group. Surely will be the rowdiest time. Seeya in the pit at this one. I cannot wait for this show.

Wednsday night, Enzian is showing the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre outside in their little park area beside their little outdoor bar. Its a part of their ongoing series of horror films for the month of October. If you’ve never seen this grainy, brutally horrifying classic film, you need to be there. Plus its free and they usually have fun little trivia questions to go along with the movie. They have pretty cool drink specials for these outdoor movie events too!
